Size Guide
All charts show body measurements, not garment measurements. For technical outdoor use, choose your size from body data first, then adjust for layering and fit preference. If your numbers fall between sizes, see the fit notes under each table.

| Size | Chest in | Waist in | Hip in | Arm in |

How to Measure
- Chest / bust Arms relaxed at sides, measure around the fullest part under the armpits, keep tape level.[12](@ref)
- Waist Measure around the natural waist at the narrowest point, usually just above the hip bones.[3](@ref)
- Hip / seat Stand with feet hip-width apart, measure around the widest part of the hips/seat.[2](@ref)
- Arm / sleeve With arm slightly bent, measure from center back of neck, across the shoulder, to the wrist bone.[12](@ref)
- Inseam From the crotch seam down the inside leg to the ankle; for boots, measure to the floor.[3](@ref)
- Hand / glove Measure palm circumference around the knuckles without the thumb; check model-specific cuff notes separately.
Use a flexible tape, measure over lightweight clothing, and avoid pulling the tape tight. For layering, remeasure while wearing your usual base layer.
Fit Types
Suggested Layering by Condition
General rule: a base, mid, insulated and rain piece in the same body size will stack for most conditions. If you regularly wear two heavy midlayers under a soft shell, size the soft shell up one. Never size a rain shell down to force insulation underneath—it compresses loft and reduces warmth.[6](@ref)
Should I size up for layering?
If you only add a base layer, stay true to body size. For fleece plus insulation plus shell, size outer pieces up one. Soft shells with multiple midlayers also benefit from one size up.
My chest and waist suggest different sizes—which do I use?
For jackets and tops, use chest. For pants and belts, use waist. For one-piece suits, choose by the larger of the two and note alterations.
Do these numbers match the garment tag?
No. Tables show body measurements. Actual garment circumferences vary by fabric stretch, style and fit type; check the product page for model-specific notes.
What if I am between inseam lengths?
Choose regular if within 0.5 in; choose tall if you wear hiking boots or prefer full coverage, short if ankle break is preferred. Untaped hems can be altered.
Do base layers shrink?
Merino blends may relax slightly when wet and recover after drying; synthetics stay stable. Follow cold-wash, flat-dry care labels. If between sizes in merino, choose the closer size for next-to-skin use.
